Pelicans signed the former No. 3 overall pick

04 srp 2019, 03:35

The New Orleans Pelicans continued to load up on former Blue Devils as former Duke star and general manager Trajan Langdon works with the franchise’s day to day czar, ... y-c-1.html David Griffin to recreate a roster following the departure of superstar Anthony Davis.

The latest Duke centric move to be made by New Orleans is the signing of former Blue Devil star J.J. Redick to a two year deal worth a reported 26.5 million.

ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news.

By signing the shooting guard Redick the Pelicans now have an entire five man rotation comprised of former Mike Krzyzewski players in point guard Frank Jackson, power forward and No.1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson Quinn Cook Jersey, center Jahlil Okafor, and small forward Brandan Ingram.

Redick, who turned 35 this past season, has played 13 years in the NBA since graduating from Duke as the program s all time leading scorer. He is coming off a two year stint in Philadelphia that saw him average 18.1 points last year for the 76ers while making 63 starts.

The 6 foot 4 scoring guard has always been known as one of the game s best perimeter shooters, and continued to validate that last season when he shot 39.7 percent from long range. For his career Redick is a 41.3 shooter on three pointers.

As part of the trade that sent Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Pelicans received the 6 foot 9 Ingram along with point guard Lonzo Ball. Ingram, the No. 2 pick in the 2016 draft, suffered a season ending injury on March 9th when he was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis in his arm.

Jackson ... y-c-2.html, like Ingram, has also dealt with a number of injuries including a foot injury that robbed him of his rookie season. He made his debut last year and played in 61 games while making 16 starts. In those games he averaged 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

Meanwhile, the Pelicans signed the former No. 3 overall pick from the 2015 draft, Okafor, before last season on a two year deal that featured a team option for this upcoming season. The team picked up that option earlier this month.

Following Davis well publicized disagreements with his situation in New Orleans, Okafor began to find more and more meaningful minutes inside for the team. For the season he averaged 8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Adding a player with Redick skill set is aimed at providing as much floor spacing as possible for players such as Williamson and even Okafor much as it assisted the Sixers in providing space for star big man Joel Embiid.

By signing with the team, New Orleans appears to have a roster that could compete for one of the final Western Conference playoff spots behind Williamson ... y-c-3.html, Jrue Holiday , and Ball.
