You may not have heard about the TV brand Seiki, but it was recently in the spotlight for launching a low-cost ultra-high definition (UHD) TV. At only US$1,399, the 50-inch SE50UY04 LED TV is one of the cheapest UHD panels you can find in the market, although it is currently available only in the US.
Now the company has unveiled a new 39-inch version, which is designed for both UHD TV and PC users. Like its bigger brother, the SE39UY04 is aggressively priced at just US$699 and sports a fast 120Hz screen refresh rate, but comes with just the bare essential features.
Aside from integrated analog and digital tuners, the 39-incher only has one USB port for displaying 4K photos and three HDMI 1.4 inputs compatible with 4K video signals. It seems that Seiki has deliberately omitted 3D support, smart TV functions and other extras to keep the price affordable.
The new SE39UY04 can now be purchased from US retailer Sears, but take note that international shipping is unavailable. It is also unclear whether this model will ever be launched outside of the US. What we do know is Seiki is releasing a 65-inch UHD panel by this fall.
If all you want is an affordable UHD TV, Skyworth is retailing its 39-inch 39E780U at US$600, but it is only available in China at the moment. There're other Chinese TV manufacturers offering UHD panels, including Hisense and LeTV.
